GALESVILLE — Robyn Leigh Docken, 63, of Galesville died
Saturday, May 29, 2010, while resting at the family home of Lynita
and Mark Delaney. The birds were singing and gospel choir music was
Born in La Crosse on Feb. 24, 1947, to Robert Grant and Elsie Finch
Docken, Robyn was an excellent student and a talented musician. She
attended University of Wisconsin-Ashand and University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse. Robyn lived in Phoenix, Whitehall and
Galesville. Her careers included that of a trucking company
dispatcher and expediter, accountant, retail owner and owner of
“Robyn’s Table Chat.”
Robyn played organ at First Presbyterian Church in Galesville from
1960 until 2010 except for the brief period when she lived in
Arizona. She was an exceptional pianist and organist who
accompanied musicians and singers of all ages and music genres. She
was especially noted for her “rockin” jazz style and her trademark
Robyn founded the GET Area Gospel Choir in 1979. She also provided
piano lessons for many of the GET children of all ages. Robyn
enjoyed collecting sheet music and lectured on the sheet music
history of the United States.
A good Scottish girl, Robyn was an avid curler at the Galesville,
La Crosse and Centerville curling clubs and was an avid supporter
of junior curling. Her favorite trip was to Germany where she
cheered her niece, Laura, on to a bronze medal at World Junior
Curling Championships. She also enjoyed golf at the Whitehall golf
Robyn loved children and directed several plays at GET Middle
School and First Presbyterian Church.
A talented writer, she co-authored a family genealogy book with her
Aunt Elizabeth “Betty” Docken. Copies are available from her
sister, Lynita Delaney.
One of Robyn’s proudest achievements was that of her work as the
editor, publisher and owner of “Robyn’s Table Chat,” a neighborhood
publication that promoted local businesses, organizations and
people that she began in 1999. Robyn loved people. “Robyn’s Table
Chat” has a circulation of over 1,900 readers.
Robyn Leigh Docken will be sorely missed by her family, vast number
of friends and her beloved community.
Robyn is survived by her brother, William J. Docken (Vickie Oanes)
of Galesville and her sister, Lynita M. Docken/Delaney (Mark) of
Trempealeau. Her nieces and nephews include Heather Docken of
Corvallis, Ore., Jeremy Docken (Zarina Nadividad) of Chicago, Laura
Roessler (Todd) of Trempealeau and Cameron Delaney of Lillydale,
Minn. She has one great-niece, Ava Madelyn Roessler, and one
great-nephew, Grant Nadividad Docken. Robyn is survived by her
Uncle Donald Docken of Galesville and by many cousins.
